During October Half Term, visitors to The Observatory Science Centre at Herstmonceux will get the chance to 'Explore Your Universe' - from atoms to astrophysics. The project is funded by the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres and the Science and Technology Facilities Council: equipment includes a thermal imaging camera and Van de Graaff generator - for some truly awesome science experiments. The project has been developed to excite and inspire young minds and to encourage young people to consider a future career in science.

The Observatory Science Centre is also running space-related workshops during half term - exploring the Earth and finding answers to cosmic questions. 'Earth & Beyond' is a twilight workshop, with Earth-based activities and learning during the afternoon and, if skies are clear during the early evening, one of the giant telescopes will swing into action for children to see what's beyond. The 'Eyes on the Universe' workshops are mini-guides to space and what's in it, with the chance to make a telescope and sundial.

Continuing with the Universe theme, the science centre has an array of hands-on exhibits, exploring the Earth, Solar System and constellations. These are in addition to permanent galleries dedicated to Forces and Light & Colour.
